Object Recognition enables programs to identify objects from video and still images. This allows AI-enabled programs to not only to recognize objects as separate from the background in a video or still image, but to identify the features of those objects. Object Recognition is one of the most active areas of research in AI. While overall it isn’t close to matching the human ability to recognize objects, AI does approach human levels when dealing with narrow cases (for example, identifying if a picture contains a dog).
